The Kutna Hora just a little over an hour away by train and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. This medieval gem of a town has been used for many movie sets. Most people come out here to see the macabre Ossuary – or more commonly know as the ‘bone church’ 40,000 skeletons have been arranged into decorative art within the chapel.
Addicted to castles?
The quiet little hamlet of Melnik is just under an hour away by bus from Holesovice Station.
The castle is more of a palace and is located in Bohemia ’s wine country. Melnik also has a tamer version of a bone church using a mere 15,000 skeletons.
Interested in WWII?
Terezin - 66 years ago the entire town of Terzin was taken over by the Nazis and made into a concentration camp. 140,000 men, women and children (mostly Danish Jews) were sent here - only 3,000 returned alive.The town still retains an eerie lifelessness about it. Catch a bus from Florenc station, it is just over an hour away.
